Aqueduct – 5th race – 2-Onlytheshadowknows (4-1)

Flashed excellent speed in two strong maiden events this winter at Gulfstream Park, improving in the speed figure department in his most recent outing when a sharp runner-up and well clear of the rest in a highly-rated, productive extended sprint. The son of Ghostzapper has trained very well since, stretches out to a one-turn mile, and retains Saez. Bond employs the blinkers-off angle that we like so much in a race in which this sophomore gelding projects as the controlling speed.  There’s plenty of value here in the straight pool and in rolling exotic play at or near his morning line of 4-1.

Golden Gate Fields – 6th race – 4-Paiasolo (4-1)

Was far back in his only prior outing last summer in a main track sprint at Del Mar but has trained like a much better type this time around for Mandella and vans north for this nine furlong maiden special weight turf event that seems made to order.  The son of Pulpit was much the best in a team drill April 13 when working a sharp seven furlongs in 1:25 3/5, in the process giving every indication that he’ll be at his best on or near the lead over a distance of ground.  With Kris S. on the bottom side of his pedigree, this 4-year-old colt should enjoy the lawn as well.  At 4-1 on the morning line he’s a straight play and rolling exotic single.
