Churchill Downs – 4th race – 9-Swordfish (8-1)
Let’s take a shot with a newcomer in this maiden special weight seven furlong sprint. This son of Summer Bird breezed a quarter pole in 20 4/5 seconds at 2015 OBS March sale (the fastest for the distance at the preview session) and then brought a bid of $330,00, quite a sum for a son of Summer Bird. He finally makes it to the post 15 months later for trainer Steve Asmussen and looks like a live item after vanning over from Indiana Downs. Strong, powerful colt clearly has plenty of natural talent and is worth a gamble at or near his morning line of 8-1.
Churchill Downs – 6th race – 4-Ahh Chocolate (2-1)
Rapidly-developing daughter of Candy Ride turned in a career top performance when winning the DuPont Distaff-G3 in her most recent outing and looks primed for another forward move in this nine furlong Grade 2 main track event for distaffers. Has excellent tactical speed and in a race that figures to be slowly run early, should be able to secure a comfortable pace-stalking position. Loves the Churchill Downs main track (two wins in three career starts) and looks ready to improve on that mark today. At 2-1 on the morning line she’s a strong straight play and rolling exotic single.
