Musings From My Grade 1 Couch: Gulfstream Park Analysis for May 3rd, 2020

Race1) Dirt 1 Mile|3lcMd 12500(12.5-10.5)|Purse: $17k
#8) Crystalina – Not too sure about why they dropped this guy in distance last time? Comes back on short rest with a tepid gate work. Have to think they will try and take the lead and not look back.

Race 2) Dirt 1 Mile|4lClm 6250|Purse: $17k
#6) Animal Trick – drops back down to a level he LOVES. Has speed and Delgado 21% off the layoff and 1st start with trainer.

Race 3) Turf 1A Miles|3ÎMd 32000(32-30)|Purse: $28k – Rail 36
#8) Aransas – Beaten just 2 lengths in a Kentucky Downs MSW, however that was September 2018! Matz is likely thinking no one will drop a claim for this guy off that kid of layoff. Out of the multiple stakes winning Turfer Welcome Dance, this guy gets Lasix for the first time and is sporting some terrific works (XBTV.com). Oh and if thats not enough, Matz 36% with horses coming back off long layoffs !
#6) Fantastry – Barn had high hopes for this guy last year in Saratoga? Turf race isn’t bad at all.

Race 4) Dirt 6 Furlongs|3ÎMd Sp Wt 45k|Purse: $45k
Many ways to go in here !
#5) Flying Finish – Attracts Ortiz is key, Margotta 20% first out. Paid $300k for this Chester and Mary Broman homebred!!!
#2) Sir Kahn – Most experienced of all of these, plus that 3rd place finish to Dr. Post jumps off the page. Perhaps he has wanted to sprint all along ?
#8) Thrill Ride – yeah yeah I know, a Wilkes first time starter, but look at those works! Add to the fact this is his second go round, was almost ready to run last October and then subsequently shelved. Solid works from the Lambholm South Training Center ( they can certainly get one ready)

Race 5) Turf 5 Furlongs|3lClm 12500N2L|Purse: $19k – rail 36
#2) Tournesol – Clipped heels and promoted to 6th in last. Stakes placed filly has done nothing wrong and makes a forward move here.
#5) Days of Spring – In form filly has had a busy 2020, wining 3 of 6 starts. Fresh off the claim and protected in this spot ! Dangerous.

Race 7)Dirt 1 Mile|3ÎçMd Sp Wt 50k|Purse: $50k
#2) Token – First foal from G2 winner Sign. Bullet work at Payson. Turn back should be no problem!!!
#1) Lasting Union – Ran evenly in her debut from the inside, gets the same draw again but really will love the added distance.

Race 9)Dirt 6ô Furlongs|3YOçAlw 55000NC|Purse: $55k
#6) Boerne – Pronounced Bernieeee!!!! Wins the draw on the outside of a compact field – seems there is a lot more there to give.
#5) Velvet Crush – Last seen trouncing MSW company, sky’s the limit it appears. April 19 work has me wondering if she ready to fire her best in her first start this year, or perhaps she just needs some company?
#1) Vast – Claiborne Farm bred and owned filly runs well fresh. She is a half sister to Bill Motts pony!!!! Not kidding #ROUND

Race 11) Dirt 6 Furlongs|3lçAlw 46000N1X|Purse: $46k
#1 Aurelia Garland – Debut winner when in Wesley wards barn last May. Now in the Brisset barn and more than holding her own in am works. Love the work April 4 with G1 Place colt Slam Dunk. She looks focused , full of run and ready to roll.
#10) Flashing Diamond – Five year old mare has been freshened for this, love the fact Ortiz sticks with her. She surely loves GP (20/8/3/1/). Work pattern is a tad spotty but that seems to be her. Love her work shown below on March 29, ears flopping backwards and forwards and moving with ease.
