Musings From My Grade 1 Couch: Royal Ascot Analysis for June 20th, 2020

Race 1 The Silver Wokingham Handicap – 6 Furlongs

#3 Count D’orsay – likes to get his toe in, had a nice pipe-opener, and Tim Easterby is a past master with this sort of horse. #12 Woven an interesting one, too, at a nice price. Add #3 Magical wish to the mix at 10-1, given a sneaky good run at Lingfield under Tom and now picks up Ryan Moore!

Race 2 The G2 Queen Mary – 5 Furlongs

#13 Sacred is thought a lot of by connections, and ticks a lot of boxes. #18 Star of Emaraaty could run big at a massive price – one of few in there with solid form on soft -ish ground. I’m finally going to include a Wesley Ward in here off the drying up ground and 2 massive efforts by his runners on Friday #1 Campanelle picks up Frankie and ran a very sharp looking race with a big fig at Gulfstream park!

Race 3 The G2 Coventry – 6 Furlongs

Probably stupid to shun O’Brien runner #1 Admiral Nelson but I really like #12 Qaader, who romped in on debut, while the form of #4 Creative Force’s win already turning out well, with runner-up finishing a good third in the Norfolk.

Race 4 The G1 Coronation – 1 mile around the Bend.

I have a side bet with my dear friend Mr Ross. He LOVES #4 Quadrilateral as she’s uber tough and could well have run better in the Guineas with a better trip. I LOVE #6 Sharing And will be rooting hard for the Motion Team. This filly I feel will act on any kind of ground and can sit handy and could well get the jump on some of these Euros. No Lasix, no problem !

Race 5 The G1 St James’s Palace – 1 mile around the bend

What a great race. #3 Pinatubo was so disappointing in the 2000 Guineas and so, you can’t get too excited about him here. While #2 Palace Pier has been beating a bunch of trees, he’s been doing it mighty impressively – might just be worth giving him a shot here. Obviously #7 Wichita is the deserved favorite but…….

Race 6 The Diamond Jubilee – 6 furlongs
#5 Sceptical stupid to overlook, given the proverbial “tightened” around Naas and now picks up Dettori . #2 Hello Youmzain is fresh and dangerous and the ground will suit him perfectly. At a massive price, #4 Sands of Mali has top-class form on soft – can run well fresh, too.

Race 7 The Wokingham Handicap – 6 Furlongs

#2 Tinto loves Ascot and will act in any kind of ground . #9 Bielsa has a nice profile, probably still ahead of the handicapper, and has winning form on heavy.

Race 8 The Queen Alexandra 2 3/4 miles on the round course

The #8 Grand Visir fits the bill nicely, comfortably weighted and perfect at Royal Ascot having taken the Ascot stakes last year under Kingscote. #11 Nate the Great has some really smart form, if he’ll stay the trip. #4 Imphal is intriguing for the Moore team !
