Musings From My Grade One Couch: Gulfstream Park Analysis for May 1st, 2020

Before we get to the card, I hope you all get a chance to check out Maximum Security’s gallop from Wednesday. Now in the Bob Baffert barn, he looks fat and happy, only wishing good things for this horse!!!!!!!

Race 1) Turf About 7ô Furlongs|3lMd 25000(25-20)|Purse: $25k
#10)Starship Bubba 8-5 Will be tough with his speed from the outside, picks up the hot hands of Ortiz as well.
#7)Extremelyexclusive 6-1 Ran a very good race in debut splitting the field only beaten 2 3/4. Drops in class for this one. Lest us not forget Scott Becker is a very good trainer!
#10)Mymagic 12-1 Intrigues me to no end, by Magician out of a Salt Lake mare. Comes in with a series of good works for the level, add to that Crichton’s stats: Debut 24% Debut MCLM 29%!

Race 2) Dirt 4ô Furlongs|2YOMd 25000(25-20)|Purse: $33k
#2)Lucky as a Seven 4/5 Will take all the money for obvious reasons. Will be interested if Ward wins on Thursday ?? This guy is a half to a debut winner and Tale of the Cat gets 16% debut winners.
#8)Congrats Again 20-1 Not to be ignored, Yates off to a good start to the meet, especially when teaming up with Vasquez. Shows a good gate work on the tab, and the 25 April work (while slow) was good. Horse was happy, focused, ears flicking backwards and forwards over a muddy track ;Dangerous!
#7)Exchange Day 9-2 Homebred for the Plesa family. Itsmyluckyday hits at 18% for two-year-old winners.

Race 3) Turf 1 Mile|3YOClm 12500(12.5-10.5)|Purse: $20k-Rails 96
#7)Itsmyluckyknight 12-1 Lost all chance at the start after stumbling, drops down to 12,500k. Plenty of speed in here for maybe this guy to set late.
#10)Uncle Andrew 7-2 Doubtful he will be 7-2 at off time, making a big drop for 30k, drawn outside but is tactical enough not to hung wide.

Race 4) Dirt 1 Mile|3lMd 12500(12.5-10.5)|Purse: $17- Rails 96
Still laughing at King of the North and King of the South drawn right next to each other here!
#1)Brand 3-1 Can be forgiven for a not so great performance over a sloppy track in his last. Friday calls for blue sky and sunshine. The drop from MSW won’t hurt either and this doesn’t alarm me as Barboza is strong in this category (33%) and 32% off the layoff.
#11)Hail Magician 7-2 No speed in here at all!!!

Race 6) Turf 1Â Miles|3ÎÐMd Sp Wt 41k|Purse: $41k
#1)Mo of the West 9-2 How can I NOT go here: The 3rd place finisher out of her debut came right back to win and is back on Thursday (Top pick Sister Otoole) This filly had the same amount of trouble as she did! Clement is 24% in this particular category.
#6)Key Biscayne 2-1 Marginal trouble in 2020 bow, should move forward off that.

Race 7) Dirt 1 Mile|3YOClm 12500(12.5-10.5)|Purse: $20k
#7)Shanghai Moon 5-2 Loves the dirt at GP!

Race8) Turf 1 Mile|4ÎOC20k/SAL16k|Purse: $24k- rails 96
#10)Jakarta 6-1 Five year old mare a winner of 5 of 10 lifetime starts. Her last was the first ever on turf and its fair to say she loved it! Given time to recover form that career high 86 Beyer, she now faces herself facing the boys and going 2 turns for the very first time (hey thats usually the best time). Picks up Ortiz and gets up to 7llb from her rivals!
#4)High Noon Rider 7-2 Tyler jumps off Jakarta to ride back for Joseph and this 8 year old has never ben better. A winner of 12 races, 2 of them this year.

Race 10) Turf 5 Furlongs|3ÎÐOC 16k/N1X|Purse: $41k
#10)Song River 4-1 Speedy sort has one way to go, luckily she is drawn outside of all the other speed and Tyler can negotiate from there.
