Golden Gate Fields – 5th race – 5-Vronilla Parfait (8-1)
First-time starter by Vronsky has shown more ability in the a.m. than the raw workout times will show and looks like a very live item in this maiden $25,000 claiming sprint for fillies and mares. The Sergio Ledezma-trained sophomore lands main stable rider Frank Alvarado and appear to have little to beat, so at 8-1 on the morning line she offers excellent value both in the straight pool and in rolling exotic play.
Golden Gate Fields – 6th race – 2-Docs Legacy-Ir (15-1)
This genuine and consistent gelding is simply too big of a number on the morning line (15-1) in the featured All-American Stakes and is worth a gamble at anywhere near that price. A winner of four of seven career starts over the Tapeta strip, the Manuel Badilla-trained import exits the much tougher San Francisco Mile-G3 (didn’t run badly at all) and returns to his preferred all-weather surface while catching a field with enough early pace to compliment his late-running style. With good racing luck, he may be capable of pulling of a major surprise, so let’s try him in the straight pool as well as in the various rolling exotics.
