Musing from My Grade 1 Couch: Gulfstream Park Analysis for May 22nd, 2020

Off the turf for Thursday’s card, but with no more rain in the forecast, perhaps we can hope to be back on for Friday!

Race 1) Turf 1 Mile|3lcMd 50000(50-40)|Purse: $35k – rail 108

#3 Gloriously 4-1 I’m like a dog with a bone, I keep going back …..and Gloriously I’m pretty sure now owes me her own Covid-19 check! That being said here I am again. Her best start to date was her only start on turf and I feel the daughter of BC Classic winner Mucho Macho Man will relish the drop in class and the stretch out.

Race 2) Turf 5 Furlongs|2YOMd Sp Wt 65k|Purse: $65k – Rail 48

#4 Amanzi Yimpilo 6-1 What’s in a name right? Amanzi Yimpilo is a city-wide school initiative in South Africa to bring clean water to drought-stricken Makhanda. The project was driven by a local ECD Forum that noticed a severe problem occurring in their schools and decided to be proactive, using their own knowledge and resources. Since it’s inception in early 2019 it has grown tremendously and now involves many city stakeholders.- WELL DONE ~ work on April 19 was a easy as it gets !!!

#12 Golden Pal 8-5 Beaten on debut at short odds, but I swear watching his Turf works that is a surface he excels on. His debut was good, wicked fast out the gate and just faltered on a surface he doesn’t love.

#6 Congrats Again 5-1 ran a monster race on debut, trust me he was a green as an asparagus shake! He won’t have to worry about the kickback here and is well drawn for a wholly underrated trainer.

Race 4) Turf 1Â Miles|4lClm 12500(12.5-10.5)|Purse: $20k – rail 108

#4 Cowboy Culture 9-2 First start for this earner of over 300k now in the Pletcher barn. Former Navarro trainee and stakes winner drops to his lowest level ever, back class should prevail! ( hoping for a soft landing for this gentleman)

#11 Twenty four Seven 2-1 the logical favorite in this spot.

Race 5) Dirt 6 Furlongs|3ÎMd 25000(25-20)|Purse: $25k

#7 Union Line 15-1 Horrific debut from the 1 hole, gets a better post and will NOT be 15-1!

#2 Bourbon Street 5-2 likely to be right there when the dust settles.

Race 6) Turf 5 Furlongs|3ÎMd 40000(40-30)|Purse: $30k – Rail 48

#4 Extremelyexclusive 6-1 Ran a solid 5th at 80-1 in debut on turf, cut in 1/2 for a rained off 7/8 effort (toss that). The gelded son of Exclusive Quality was haltered for 25k in that one and now returns for 40k with Ortiz!! Very live indeed.

#2 Mr Nappy 7-2 solid and has beaten better.

#8 Lhotse 30-1 Debuts with an above average worktable for the level for owner, trainer, breeder Tom Foley. Tom has been around a good horse or two.

Race 8) Turf 5 Furlongs|3ÎçClm 16000N3L|Purse: $20k – Rail 108

#8 Alpilles 9-2 Really hoping the #5 Sugar Bolt doesn’t jump back into form, because if she does she’s super dangerous indeed …..That being said I will take a swing on the 9-2 shot !

Race 9) Dirt 1Â Miles|3ÎÐOC 16k/N1X|Purse: $41k

#4 Jays Way 10-1- 7 year old tumbles in class for new trainer Danny Gargan. This gelding loves GP and Gargan super dangerous in all categories. Lets toss that effort or non effort in Jan. He’s got speed and the back class to wire this field…… dangerous.

#2 Wild Medagliad’oro 2-1 for all the obvious reasons.
