Musings from my Grade 1 Couch: Gulfstream Park Analysis for April 24th, 2020

10 Race card that starts at 1pm Eastern!

Race 1) Turf 1 Miles|3YOMd 16000(16-14)|Purse: $19k – rails 60 feet

Tough race, most of these have already proven their ability! That being said, lets look at one debuting and one I will just treat as a first time starter.
5) Viking Plunder TOP PICK ~ home bred for Mr Steinnman, by his wonderful sire Creative Cause . Comes in with a very solid worktab for the level including a solid bullet April 8 Drill. Mark Molina is a very good horseman who was in CA most of his life. His Daughter Lindsay is aboard for a visually impressive work March 14 ~ watch on XBTV .

1)Mr Tito’s ~ This could be a hunch play for many at this time . Didn’t really pick his feet up as a 2 year old last June , now gelded , gets Lasix and comes in with average works. Steady sort may wake up this time around. Wilkes 20% off a layoff such as this.

Race 2) Dirt 1 Mile|3YOClm 20000(20-18)|Purse: $26k

#4) Hartling ~ Looms the one to beat, raised to 50 last out, now makes the drop to a better level for her …if she’s still in top form she should be tough here ??

#6) Boss Wife ~ should Hartling stub her toe how about a swing on this one. Toss her last just 2 weeks ago. She’s smart and knows grass is for eating. Back on dirt and lands here with a capable apprentice. She gets 7llb”s from most of these !! #DANGEROUS

Race 3) Dirt 6 Furlongs|3 +Md 25000(25-20)|Purse: $25k

#6) Perfectcombination ~ Patiently handled by the connections as one of two 4 year olds in this compact field. Got to figure she will move fwd on the drop with a start under her belt, not a dream trip in debut either.

#1) Platinumcents ~ much like the filly above. 4 years old coming back off a lengthy layoff. I like the bullet out of the gate.

Race 5) Turf 5 Furlongs|3ÎOC 62k/N2X|Purse: $47k

#2) Tiger Blood ~what a horse he is, a throwback kind. 18 wins in 45 starts, now 7 years old he is showing no signs of slowing down, winning 3 of 4 starts this year, and holds a gaudy 7 for 9 record at GP !! Plus if you follow the works on XBTV, how about this, Mdn winners Quionoia Tifha and Gatsby worked together along side Tiger Blood who blew by them down the lane April 12 !!!

Race 6) Dirt 7 Furlongs|3ÎçClm 40000(40-35)N2L|Purse: $28k| – rails 115

#2) Simple Story fresh and dangerous , likely needed the last start but won anyway . On The Move.

#5) Politely crowned ~ comes in with good works for Mazza who hits at 25% with the 180 plus days angle.

Race 8) Turf 1° Miles|3YOçOC 75k/N1X|Purse: $46K

Very very tough heat here , I’m using 3 in really no particular order. Altho at a pinch I will give the edge to…..
#4) New Day Dawning ~ numbers wise doesn’t figure , and she may just be a very very good work horse. I was looking for a filly with some amount of speed to compliment the rails at 115 . This filly fits the bill, bred up and down for turf …her lone race on the green stuff was excellent falling 1 3/4 lengths short to Path not Taken who has taken social distancing seriously and has not been seen since.

#3) Eve of War , maybe she lost all chance at the start or perhaps she is a turf horse . Will likely be bet off the boards again and if she can get back to that 88 Beyer fig , she’s a winner here !

#1) Nope ~ well-bred daughter of No Nay Never has really never heard her feet rattle on firm turf. Works are good coming in and Walsh Boast 30% with 1st time Euros off a layofff !!

Race 9) Dirt 1Â Miles|3lçOC 25k/N1X|Purse: $46k

#4 Whispering Beauty ~ Lovely filly ran a winning race last time , did she hit the lead too early? Or was the 1 3/16 too far ? . Cuts back a furlong and adds blinkers . Would love her to sit in the pocket and sprint home. Love her work April 4 , really relaxed and finished well , would have loved to see how she acts with the blinkers.

#3) Graceful Princess~ will attract some attentions a daughter of Tapit and out of champion Harve de Grace ~ she trys turf for the first time. Pletcher not huge in this category , but the race shape will certainly help as not much pace signed on. Perhaps she can steal ?

Good Luck !!
