Musings from my Grade One Couch: Gulfstream Park Analysis for May 7th, 2020

Not the norm for this years first Saturday in May as we enter WEEK 7 (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT ) OF SOCIAL DISTANCING AND SELF ISOLATION, but the weekend’s racing was certainly very good. Baffert’s pair of Nadal and Charlatan will keep people arguing for weeks about who is best?

One thing is for sure tho, Bob has no plans to run either one of them anytime soon and will likely just have Authentic for the Santa Anita Derby.

Thursday Gulfstream Park.

Race1)Turf 5 Furlongs|3YOçMd 12500(12.5-10.5)|Purse: $17k

#2) No No Nina 8-5 Will likely take all the money here, although Clement just 1-24 at the current meet. Tumbles in class off a decent effort.
#6 )My First Ex Wife 5-2 Should No No Nina happen so say No No, this filly is solid for the level and will be right there.

Race2) Dirt 4ô Furlongs|2YOçMd Sp Wt 65k|Purse: $65k
#5) Lyrical 6-1 Fair to say I have been waiting for this one since watching her drill her two workmates on April 19. I was really hoping she wouldn’t have to race a Wesley Ward trainee, she faces two!!!
Her works have been straight, true and professional and is drawn outside of both of the Wards.

#3) Princess Secret 8-1 Danny Pita Batting 38% for the meet . Filly By 24% debut sire Khozan. 35 2/5 Gate work
#2) Tharos 5-2 Ward/Tyler by the speedy Kantharos

Race4) Turf 1Â Miles|3ÎçMd 16000(16-14)|Purse: $19k- rail 12
#4) Formula 5-1 For red hot Hough barn, much trouble in debut, but still only beaten 6 lengths. Picks up Rosario and drops down to 16k!
#2) Sequaya 15-1 Toss 2020 debut, I could have run faster!! Tries turf for the first time and drops back down to claiming level, local turf works look ok .
12) Caribbean Kitten 7-2 should make anther move forward.

Race 5) Turf 1Â Miles|3ÎClm 30000N2L|Purse: $25k
#4) Blameless 8-1 Same owner / trainer connections that teamed up to win with 10-1 shot Aransas off the bench last week at GP. Spotty work tab on a colt who can win if he is right. Check his works on Xbtv.com
#6) Motataabeq 10-1 Has arguably ran against better and makes his first stat for Pino and for a tag. Has been working well on the green stuff, check them out on XBTV.com

Race 6) Dirt 6 Furlongs|3ÎÐMd Sp Wt 41k|Purse: $41k
#5) Victory Town 2-1 In fairness he has yet to run a bad race, 3rd start off the layoff for this well bred son of Speightstown.
#1) Celtic Brotherhood 9/5 Draws the rail (again) and I wonder how much that last race took out of him? Returns on 3 weeks rest and is likely to have a similar trip as he did last time with Saez.
#8) Ominous 20-1 Drew the rail for his long awaited debut and didn’t run horrifically. Just an odd spot to return in off short rest. Love he draws the outside , but really intrigued by the class hike?? However Alvarado isn’t winning at 29% for no reason.

Race 7) Turf 5 Furlongs|3ÎçClm 16000|Purse: $23k- Rail 72
#5) Heir Ball 5-2 Has speed and has never been better at 6 years old.

Race 9) Turf 1 Mile|4ÎçAlw 40000s|Purse: $31k- Rail 12
#10) Mike’s Girl 9-2 Fresh off a layoff since feb, has been working superbly, the rails in at 12 feet should help her horrible draw. Pace a plenty in this heat and hopefully she can rate just off the leaders.

#2) Lido Key 6-1 Picks up the hot hand of Irad, well drawn in this speed laden event, would love to see her closing fasted of all as I feel it sets up for a closer.

Race 10) Dirt 6 Furlongs|3ÎÐOC 16k/N1X|Purse: $41k
#5) Flora Fantasy 6-5 Perfect on the year with Ortiz, I see no reason she can’t win again.

Race 11)Turf 1 Mile|3YOMd 65000(65-60)|Purse: $36k- Rail 72 feet
#12) Metcalf 5-1 Good looking son of Distorted Humor looked like he loved the grass in his turf bow, gets a similar draw on the outside, but possess enough speed to get over. Fuentes rides back so you are getting a 5-7 lb swing in weights. Hopefully he can be a little more patient and not be 5 wide on an early move around the turn.
#11) Call Bros 6-1 Have to think Ortiz can land anywhere and we find him here, on a firster for Falcone???
